These were designed in celebration of ‘Epetoma o te reo Māori Kūki ‘Āirani – Cook Islands Language Week 2021.
The theme was ‘Ātuitui’ia au ki te Oneone o tōku ‘Ui Tupuna which means, connect me to the soil of my ancestors.
Tivaevae is the Cook Islands traditional art of quilting and applique.
These hand crafted quilts are gifted or passed down at very special occassions.
We decided to do these designs as a tribute to my grandmother who is very gifted in tivaevae.
